Masaba recently posted a video of her father on Instagram that quickly grabbed attention. In the clip, Richards talks about cricket, life, and his new responsibility with the Commonwealth.

Her caption said it all: “Why are my parents SO. DAMN. COOL?! I can’t keep up. But I have a feeling my daughter will.”

The playful line was shoutout to both her famous parents: actor Neena Gupta and cricket icon Viv Richards.

The video was originally shared by the Commonwealth as well. Their caption joked about unexpectedly running into the cricket legend on the street and introduced him as the Envoy for the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

For those wondering why the buzz is so big, the appointment is a serious honour.

The legendary Antiguan cricketer has been named the official Envoy for the 2026 CHOGM. The major international meeting will take place in Antigua and Barbuda from November 1 to November 4, 2026.

As Envoy, Richards will help represent and promote the Commonwealth and its values in the lead-up to the summit.

The unconventional family story

Masaba was born in 1989 to Neena Gupta and Viv Richards. Their relationship became widely talked about in India at the time.

Neena chose to raise Masaba as a single mother, as Richards was already married to Miriam, with whom he had two children.

Despite the unusual family situation, Masaba has always spoken respectfully and warmly about both her parents.

In December 2025, Masaba opened up about her father’s influence during an appearance on Sania Mirza’s talk show, ‘Serving It Up With Sania’.

She revealed that watching Richards growing up shaped her mindset.

Masaba said she admired his independence, his physical fitness, and his mental strength, and she hoped to become “some version” of that herself.

Masaba’s life today

While celebrating her father’s milestone, Masaba is also enjoying a happy phase in her own life.

She married actor Satyadeep Mishra in 2023. The couple welcomed their first child, a baby girl named Matara, in October 2024.
